Workday, a leader in enterprise cloud applications for finance and human resources, has been chosen to support LKAB, Europe's largest iron ore producer, as it pioneers a more sustainable approach to iron and steel mining.

Established in 1890 in Sweden, LKAB produces 80 percent of Europe's iron ore and operates the world's largest underground iron ore mine. As one of the largest companies in its field, it now hopes to lead the industry toward more responsible, resource-efficient mining practices, using technology to set new standards for how mines are digitized and managed.

'We've set ourselves ambitious productivity and environmental goals, including to achieve carbon dioxide-free production by 2045. Digital transformation is key to our strategy, and Workday & Kainos will enable us to bring the way we operate into the digital age,' said Sven-Eric Ersson, Lead Project Manager, LKAB.

With one cloud-based system for human capital management, financials and planning, LKAB will have a single source of real-time data to make informed, timely decisions about every part of its business.

Workday's built-in business process framework will allow LKAB to standardise and streamline operations across all departments. As changes occur within the organisation, it will have the flexibility to easily change course and configure business processes to meet new requirements within minutes.

"As LKAB embarks on their new Workday journey, at Kainos, we're honoured to have been selected as their strategic Workday partner to deploy Workday HCM, Finance and Planning", said Malachy Smith, Workday Global Practice Leader at Kainos. "We'll help deliver the benefits of streamlining their operations in one cloud-based system. Alongside this, our testing platform, Kainos Smart, will automate their testing efforts, revolutionising their Workday experience, and keeping staff dedicated to LKAB 's ambitious productivity and environmental goals."

"This is the beginning of an incredible journey for LKAB and we're excited to be a big part of that," said Therese Nyberg, Director Field Services, Workday. "By helping LKAB to pioneer a new approach to mining, we're proving that even heavy industry can be made agile and sustainable through better and faster decisions based on real-time insight. This will make companies in mining and beyond reconsider what's possible when you become a data-driven organization."
